Braunton Burrows

When we were on our road trip in the summer when enjoyed exploring so many places. Even if it was only for a few hours in between surfs or rain showers, (sometimes both!).

Every time that we visit the North Devon coast we have to go to Braunton Burrows. With its "brother-in-arms" Saunton Sands enjoying the Atlantic tides below it Braunton Burrows rises above the miles of golden sand and it bridges the gap between coast and mainland. It's a rare site and often not enjoyed or seen by the thousands of tourists visiting the area every day.

Parking in the beach car park when took the footpath into the dunes. Braunton Burrows is a vast and complex sand dune system full of grasses, wild flowers, lichen and shrubs. When amongst the dunes you become a part of the rolling slopes of soft sand. It's a alien environment but one which must be experienced. If time is on your side you can follow the coast path for miles through the dunes. It's nearly impossible to get lost as you're never far from the beach.
